Iceland has many rivers and lakes which offer excellent opportunities for angling of wild Atlantic Salmon and various types of trout and char. The salmon season is from mid June to mid September but the trout season is more varied and fishing through ice can even be arranged in winter. Some of the best salmon rivers are world famous and very expensive but it is also possible to arrange angling at reasonable prices. Please note that if you bring your own equipment is must be officially disinfected prior to arrival.
Deep sea fishing is becoming very popular, mainly from small fishing villages in the Westfjords. Good catches are very common, mainly cod, haddock, catfish, saith and halibut, which can be over 2 meters and 200 kilogrammes! Due to heavy demand fishing tours have to be booked well in advance.
